Michael Jackson Estate Sues Japanese Companies Over Unauthorised Merchandise
by WENN | 10 October 2013

The administrators of Michael Jackson's estate have targeted the bosses of three companies in Japan with a lawsuit, demanding they stop the production and sale of the singer's merchandise without their permission.

Last month (Sep13), a lawsuit was filed in the Tokyo District Court against Ryosuke Matsuura and three companies, Michael Jackson Asian Rights, Michael Jackson Enterprises and Michael Jackson World, ordering officials to stop using the name and likeness of the King of Pop without consent.

The companies sell the Jackson memorabilia through online sites, and products range from towels to postcards and lighters.

The estimated value of the unauthorised products is 123 million yen ($1.23 million), but the estate is not seeking financial compensation.

A statement from the estate reads: "Many in Japan have been misled by the defendants. Michael loved his millions of Japanese fans, all of whom deserve the opportunity to purchase legitimate and authentic Michael Jackson goods."

The lawyers for the estates go on to state: "The defendants are taking advantage of the fact that Michael is dead to act as though they have obtained the rights."

I assume that the estate will be looking for some of the proceeds instead of stopping them from selling these

I don't think so. Usually when something like this happens, The Estate shut down the company and stop the products from being sold

If these 3 companies Michael Jackson Asian Rights, Michael Jackson Enterprises and Michael Jackson World are selling on EBAY and AMAZON, then yes, their Ebay and Amazon shops will be closed.
