AFROJACK Remixed Michael Jackson's BAD
Posted by Katherine St Asaph on 05/28/2012 at 4:00 PM News

The promo blitz for Michael Jackson’s Bad 25 album is about as extensive as you imagined, if not more so. The latest to be rolled out: a series of remixes from the album, from producers like Diplo (naturally), A-Trak (cool) and Skrillex (?!).

There’s also Afrojack (“Taking Over Control” and “Give Me Everything,” to name what’s charting), and he’s tackled “Bad.” The remix is fairly straightforward, adding a streamlined house beat and subtracting not much. In other words, nobody would ever make terrible puns to criticize it, and when remixing “Bad,” that’s top marks.

How to hear it? Two ways. You can take a picture of a soda can to hear this, or you can hear it here. One is a questionable use of photography. One’s something already on this page. Easy choice.

Michael Jackson is “Bad”.. Don’t Be Messin’ is “Cool”
by DAMIEN SHIELDS posted on MAY 30, 2012

As music lovers around the world look forward in anticipation to the 25th anniversary of the release of Michael Jackson’s multi-million selling BAD album, marked by the late singer’s estate and record label with the September 18 release of an impressive box set (including 3 CDs and a concert tour DVD), the more astute of the Jackson fans have diverted their attention to a less publicised event.

On June 5th, 2012 Sony Music, in an exclusive deal with Wal-Mart (in the US), will make available a commemorative re-issue of the lead single of BAD, Jackson’s 1987 single “I Just Can’t Stop Loving You”. The song, which was the first of a historic five consecutive chart-topping singles from the BAD album, is a gorgeous duet featuring Jackson’s collaborative partner Siedah Garrett. The track will remain unedited, in it’s original form, as it appeared on the single release 25 years ago.

What makes this release so exciting for Jackson fans is that the single also contains a previously unreleased track – a demo entitled “Don’t Be Messin’ Round” – which, according to Sony Music, originates from the BAD album sessions.

Fans have known of the track’s existence for quite some time however its actual origins remain under question. In a 2008 interview Jackson’s then-lawyer Peter Lopez let slip of the recording’s possible inclusion on the 25th anniversary re-release of the Thriller album. It was reported at the time that the track was an outtake from the Thriller sessions. Either way, the creative direction of that particular release (which would become Thriller 25) changed, and the song was never made public.

Following his passing, one of Jackson’s longest-serving producers Brad Buxer registered a song, titled Don’t Be Messin’, with the US Copyright Office. Buxer and Jackson first began working together on the Dangerous album sessions in 1989, and continued a professional relationship through 2006. Buxer’s possession of the recording and subsequent registration of it would indicate that Jackson, with Buxer’s assistance, continued to work on the song long after both the Thriller and BAD albums had been completed and released..

Bruce Swedien, Jackson’s long time studio engineer and the man that recorded Jackson’s vocals spoke about “Don’t Be Messin’ Round” in a 2009 interview, in which he referred to it as a “powerful” and “mesmerizing” ballad. “Michael plays piano on it, and it’s just beautiful … Oh my God, there’s nothing like it”.

Recently I was fortunate enough to with talk to someone who is familiar with the song.

“It’s cool”, she explained. “It’s not something you’d typically expect from Michael Jackson. When you listen to songs like Smooth Criminal or Dirty Diana which come from the same era it’s understandable why Messin’ wasn’t included on Bad. It’s too different. It doesn’t fit.”

Nevertheless, I was assured that fans will thoroughly enjoy the track.

“From what I could tell”, she continued, “it hasn’t been touched up. It seems to be the way Michael left it. It sounds like something you might have heard in a classy Jazz bar back in the ’50s. That’s the mood of the song. It’s a lounge type song.”

“You can imagine Michael just sitting at the piano, in the privacy of his home, jamming for his friends and family on this one. It’s really nice.”

All speculation will be set aside in just a few short days when fans finally have the chance to hear the track for themselves.

I emailed Britvic/Pepsi Company UK last week out of curiosity to ask what the MJ promotions for the BAD 25 tins are all about and they have replied saying that it's only a USA Pepsi Co dicision that will not be coming here.  That's a well fine decision because it prooves they aren't screwing "us" for money   :pepsi:   :clapping: Only Pepsi would do this to their own province   :tlaugh:  Look at how Pepsi dumped!! Michael in 93 when the Chandling allegators came out...  :stirthepot: :fu:  Yes exactly. We don't forget these things   :foff:  They are welcome to them.

Hypocrites.

thanks Mrs Fedora

I merged your thread with the main BAD 25 thread, its best to keep all info together

I kinda guessed this was the case. Other fans have also been in contact and been told the same thing. I checked in HMV today and IJCSLY is not on their system as a physical cd single for Uk & Ireland.

How interesting, that when Michael was alive all fan stuff happened OUTSIDE USA, now he is dead, everything is centered IN USA!!!

Aw thanks Moon for moving my post here. I didn't see this 2 page thread.

Yes you are 100% correct about this scinario. I'm actually glad all the negative stuff lurks within the USA which means "we" aren't gross examples and hypocrites.  They are welcome to them.

We respected and supported MJ throughout his entire life and career and it remains that way  :smoothmj:    :smilysalute:  Unlike those across the water. What a disgrace they are.

Spike Lee works on Michael Jackson documentary

NEW YORK — Spike Lee worked with Michael Jackson and considered him a friend, but the director says even he learned a lot combing through footage of the icon for a planned documentary about the singer's "Bad" album.

Lee calls it a "treasure chest of findings."

"We have footage in this documentary that no one's ever seen, stuff that Michael shot himself, behind-the-scenes stuff," he said in an interview Monday. "We had complete access to the vaults of Michael Jackson. ... He wrote 60 demos for the 'Bad' record. Only 11 made it. So we got to hear a lot of that stuff, too, so it was just a great experience."

He added: "You don't have to be a Michael Jackson-head to enjoy this."

Lee's documentary will be part of a flood of material to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the "Bad" album, Jackson's follow-up to "Thriller" that included hits like the title track, "Smooth Criminal," ''The Way You Make Me Feel" and more. The album is being rereleased Sept.18 with additional tracks, a DVD and other bonus material; Lee's film is due to come out later this year, but no date has been set.

Besides Jackson's artistry, Lee said the documentary will show a more personal side of the late legend.

"He had a great sense of humor, and he was funny — so you'll see a lot of that stuff," he said.

Lee interviewed people ranging from Kanye West to Mariah Carey to Sheryl Crow, who was Jackson's background singer on the "Bad" tour.

"We really divided it into two things: Artists today who were influenced by Michael, and then people who worked side by side — musicians, songwriters, technicians, engineers, people at the label, who were all committed to Michael, to the follow-up to the biggest record of all time, which still is 'Thriller.'"

Besides the documentary, Lee also plans to hold his now annual birthday tribute to Jackson in Brooklyn, N.Y, on Aug. 25; Jackson would have turned 54 this year.

"This year we're going to focus on the 'Bad' album, we're going to focus on the 25th anniversary, but at the same time we're going to play his full catalog, including the Jackson 5 and the Jacksons," he said. "It's going to be even bigger and better this year.

More money spinning stuff. It'll be great to hear new material. 6o songs that were penned and never released is a lot, I don't see why they all cannot be put onto CD's as all fresh, new songs. We've got all the BAD tracks on the BAD album already.  All about money again! $$$$$$$$$$$$$.

I agree with you Mrs Fedora.

But I will be honest and say that I would love to see the whole of the BAD concert that Princess Diana attended.
I had a look for it online and it appears that if you buy the DVD for the BAD concert that the CD BAD25 comes with it as a package.

But I only want the DVD !!!   :banghead:

LOL! IAS   Tell me about it.   This is what we are all noodled about  :sad1:  With the current economic climate and such, people have had to tighten their belts on spending. These money hungry yanks must think we are all loaded  :pullhair:  In our dreams like. However....

The full version of the BAD concert from London will be an exception   :cartoonmj: along with material we've never heard, plus the tour Jacket, the signatured cans x 6, the fancy leather buckled case, some proper BAD concert 'glossy' live photos added, a lifesize cardboard stand and a BAD 25 printed flag..  :redmj: :smilysalute:  Then yes, we wouldn't mind dipping into our purses for that as a package  and if they wanted to throw in another BAD CD (which we all have already  :imbad:) LOL!  great as an extra

It's too expensive for the little that's in the package   I'm disappointed.

how come the Estate-Sony releases don't exactly measure up to par where legacy caliber is concerned? Vision was criticized, MICHAEL was controversial and is to this day, and now this Wembley footage that they are already apologizing for before its release. and the excuse is that they can't find the good copy? ok.  at least i expect this would be better than the jumbotron view, which was the copy they initially planned to include in the package. how could they even consider that? for that matter, OPUS did not deliver on the technology for the first book and yet the Estate is doing another project with them. seems like the Cirque shows are doing a better job.

anyway, i'm so looking forward to - - - - - Spike Lee's documentary.

simple...... cos they are posthumous projects and releases and don't have that something extra... Michael magic touch. Everything you mentioned have been people trying to recreate and someones opinion of how Michael MIGHT have done things. With all the good will in the world, they never will be as amazing quality or finished to perfection like Michael did, solely because his energy, his spirit, his aura, his magic has not touched it. The magic in the air has gone, Michael's aura is not giving these projects & releases that little bit of magic......

that is so right, moon, but i still question the Estate. like they're supposed to approve the stuff that Sony releases. couldn't they have demanded that Sony improve the quality of the videos that went into the Vision DVD, for instance? say 'that's crap, you better do some real re-mastering, enlarge the frame (or whatever technical term they use) or else.' Michael wouldn't really need to work on them if he were here because they're re-issues; it's just the quality that is wanting.

i hope the remaining projects will be more satisfactory.
