The Immortal World Tour Has Raked in $100 Million
December 14, 2011

According to Forbes Magazine, the Cirque du Soleil’s Michael Jackson The Immortal World Tour, which cost about $60 million to make, has already raked in about $100 million. And that’s just since it opened in Montreal last October 3. It’s now playing to packed houses in Las Vegas, and has tour dates stretching on to forever. Plus, there’s a permanent version of the show in the works, slated to opend at the Mandalay Bay resort in Las Vegas in May, 2013.

Some of us were hoping that the permanent show would feature a new creative team which might come up with a more cohesive approach.  But apparently the Cirque du Soleil has rehired choreographer Jamie King, who did the touring show, and costume designer Zaldy Goco.  Or at least that’s what the Las Vegas Sun is reporting.

After all, who wants to mess with success?  Pollstar, which crunches the money numbers on the concert circuit, is listing the MJ Immortal show as the top-earning show in North America, beating out Taylor Swift by a comfortable margin.

Also being reported in Vegas, pop megastars Jay-Z and Beyonce took in a performance of  MJ The Immortal at Mandalay Bay.

The show is expected back at the Bell Centre in Montreal on March 20-22, 2012.
